Founded on Experience and Strong Values
Xerimis was founded in 2001 by pharma R&D veteran Peter Bernardo, PhD, and his wife, Loretta Bernardo, RN. But our real story begins in 1988, when the couple founded their first contract packaging organization (CPO) for clinical trial supplies, Simirex. The company took off quickly, serving pharma, biotech, and clinical research groups as demand for outsourced clinical supply services grew. Building upon their success with Simirex, Peter and Loretta opened a second company, Simirex Europe.
After selling the Simirex companies to Quintiles Transnational Corp. in 1998, Peter and Loretta’s desire to support pharmaceutical innovation continued. So they founded Xerimis, bringing the same commitment to client success as before, a wealth of experience, and their corporate values: quality, responsiveness, flexibility, and reliability. The Bernardos had earned a positive reputation in the industry, and many Simirex clients were eager to partner with Xerimis from day one. In fact, Xerimis still retains many of the same clients who were there from the beginning. Fun fact: Xerimis is Simirex spelled backwards.
Expanded clinical supply capabilities
Over the next two decades, Xerimis expanded to meet the ever-growing needs of clients. Here are some expansion highlights:
Partner Depots
Cultivated a strong network of partner-depots, cementing our ability to reach patients all over the world.
Cold Storage and Cold Chain Management
Quadrupled cold storage and packaging capabilities as the industry developed new therapies requiring cold chain management.
Dedicated Returns Center
Built a dedicated Returns center to provide the very best accountability, inspections, and destruction processing services.
UK Expansion
Opened Xerimis Ltd. in the United Kingdom, allowing greater flexibility for clients with clinical trials in Europe.
Europe Expansion
Established Xerimis B.V. in the Netherlands, providing QP services for batch release so that client studies in Europe would not be interrupted by Brexit.
Amsterdam Depot
Completed construction of a full-service depot near Amsterdam to provide storage, packaging, labeling, and distribution of supplies for EU-based trials.
Growth Across Departments
Along with expansions in square footage and service capacities, Xerimis grew its expert staff across all departments. We also created new departments specializing in complex global studies and clinical supply management. All of our teams have been instrumental in the success of Xerimis and valued assets to our clients.

Now led by Carol Sue Bernardo, Xerimis upholds the tradition of building long-term relationships with clients and providing the highest quality in service and deliverables. We honor our role as a trusted supply chain partner, helping sponsors advance medicine no matter what size or phase clinical trial. As one of the first CPOs in the clinical supply space, Xerimis has seen the industry grow, change, and change again. We work to continuously improve our processes, while staying current with constantly changing industry regulations and varying national laws. In addition, our three locations have streamlined processes and work in tandem, maximizing efficiency and flexibility for clients with global studies.
